There is free parking on the day of the event in the underground lot underneath the Hyatt - enter off of Spring Street as Speedwell Avenue will be closed - you must get your ticket validated at our booth at the Expo after your ride and before leaving the lot.

Hint: Many of our participants choose to park on the streets or in one of the open municipal lots within 1/4 to 1/2 mile of the event and ride to the start.

All distances will participate in the Mass Start at 7:00 AM.

The MASS START will be released in waves, with the fastest riders at the front. This year the Start corrals and waves will NOT be lined up by course distance. No matter what course you are riding, line up behind the signage indicating your average speed on hilly terrain. If you are riding with a group who ride at varuious speeds, line up with the slowest rider of your group. There will be 5 line-up corrals on Speedwell Ave. (18+ mph; 16-18mph; 14-16mph; 12-14mph; 10-12mph). There will be a separation of a few minutes between each of the 5 wave starts.

Early Morning:.

With over 2,000 participants, it will be a busy and somewhat hectic start. Here are some things you can do to make it a bit easier.

  • The ride will start promptly at 7:00 AM - it will take about 20-30 minutes for all riders to pass underneath the START Structure.
  • Arrive early and be parked and out on the plaza (with your bike) no later than 6:15 AM
  • If you are picking up your packet "morning of" then plan to be parked and at the plaza no later than 5:30 AM. If your car has a roof rack, park in an open lot and not at HQ plaza.
  • Start to line up on Speedwell Avenue no later 6:30 AM.
  • EVERYONE SHOULD BE LINED UP AND READY TO START BY 6:45 AM. We will have music and announcements broadcast the length of Speedwell Avenue at the start to keep you entertained.
  • If you are riding as a group, have a pre-designated plan of where to meet at the start.
  • Arrive with two full water bottles and enough enegry supplies to get you to the first rest stop (Mile 8.5 for the Breve, Mile 21 for all other routes).
  • During the ride, make sure you fuel up with a PowerBar every 30 minutes or so. If it is warm, make sure to keep hydrated.
  • The Expo opens up at 10 AM so no need to hammer through the ride - stop and enjoy our rest stops.
  • You can pick up your free pint glass at Veronica's on Speedwell across from the Expo.
  • There are showers available at the end of the ride at "The Club of Morristown", but you will need to bring your own towel & toiletries.
  • Make sure to take a "Selfie" or a Team photo on the podium with our stage banner as a backdrop.
  • Hang around at the end for our Food Festival, live music and awards ceremony (speeches from our beneficiaries at 3:00 PM and KoM and QoM awards at 4:30 PM)

If you have any questions, ask one of our many volunteers or come visit us at the Gran Fondo NJ booth and we should be able to help.

We want to leave the world a better place than when we arrived on it, and are investing in Gran Fondo NJ to run the event following sustainable business practices.
For Gran Fondo NJ 2014, we are seeking accreditation of the event through the Council for Responsible Sport. If all goes well we will be the first Gran Fondo in the US to achieve certification.
You can help us in the following ways.
When throwing out waste, either at our rest stops or at the Expo, please place it in the designated container.
When en-route do not litter - carry your empty energy packets in your pockets and throw them out at our rest stops.
Car pool to and from packet pick-up and/or the event.

      A Celebration of Cycling

Gran Fondo NJ is back for its fourth year. We offer challenges to cyclists of all abilities, from our 107 mile Gran Fondo route with more climbing than you could ask for (and great rest stops too) to our 18 Mile Breve route. Our goal is for you to have fun, be challenged, and never have to look at a cue sheet during your ride. Each of our 6 rest stops is stocked with the usual fare you would expect on a challenging ride, and featured treats that will surprise you. With timing only on the hill climbs, we offer a serious athletic challenge for our competitive participants, with the ability to wait at the tops of the climbs for others in your group without worrying about "losing time".
A surprise to many, Gran Fondo NJ offers some of the most beautiful and challenging cycling terrain in the east. Our 62-mile Medio route was named by the editors of Bicycling Magazine to their list of "The 50 Best Rides in America."

Gran Fondo NJ continues to lead the way in introducing innovations to improve the Gran Fondo experience for cyclists of all abilities.

      • Register before August 22nd and be eligible to win a cycling vacation in Tuscany courtesy of VBT - Vermont Bike & Walking Vacations (Airfare included).
      • In 2012 we were one of, if not the first Gran Fondo in North America to introduce the "Breve" length, opening up the Gran Fondo experience to all levels of cyclists.
      • We introduced a "Team Category" in which you not only get a discount for riding as part of a Team, but the Team Captain can ride the event for free depending on the size of the team registered.
      • This year we are adding a Women's Team Category in the QoM competitions.
      • We have been managing our event on the principles of sustainability and in 2014, are the first Gran Fondo in North America to apply for certification of the event through the Council for Responsible Sport.
      • The popular Kid's Fondo will be back (September 6th) bigger and better than ever.

        Giving back to our Community.

One of the missions of Gran Fondo NJ is "giving back to our community". In its first three years the event has raised over $400,000 in funds going directly to charitable organizations. These organizations use Gran Fondo NJ as a means to both raise awareness for their causes, and to generate much needed funds. If you fundraise, you may find it very motivating as you slug out the last 20 miles of the ride to know that you are doing so for a cause. Please check out our five beneficiaries, or fundraise for one of your own.
